Welding Department
History
First students of Welding Technology and Equipment speciality were enrolled in 1967. The Section of Welding carried out its work as evening department till 1988 under the guidance of PhD. Anatolij S. Badaev, then PhD. Anatolij M. Rykov, PhD. Leonid N. Simanenkov, prof. Yurij M. Lebedev. In 2003 according to the Rector’s order of 31.12.2003 № 270 Department of Welding was organized and now it is a part of the shipbuilding faculty of the Kherson Branch of National University of Shipbuilding.
The Head of the Department is prof. Stanislav V. Dragan. The academic staff of the Department includes PhD. Vladymyr Y. Sagan, PhD. George H. Goloborodko, assoc. prof. Bogdan V. Hudz’, assoc. prof. Volodymyr V. Spikhtarenko, assoc. prof. Serhiy A. Loy.
The first graduates of full-time department with Bachelor’s degree in Welding completed their study in 2000 and in 2002 the first graduates with Specialist’s degree in Welding completer their course.S.A., lecturer Maxim V Matvienko. The leading specialists of the Welding Department of the National University of Shipbuilding are also involved in the educational process in the Kherson Branch. They are: prof. Vyacheslav F. Kvasnytsky, prof. Gennady V. Yermolaev, PhD. Olexander M. Kostin and prof. of NTU "KPI" Victor V. Kvasnytsky.
The academic staff of the Department focuses its work on specific orders for specialists for the shipbuilding industry and other industries of the region. The specialists in welding are required nowadays and the need is not temporary, but constant. The welding engineers are welcome in shipbuilding, ship repair, engineering and the sphere of application is gradually extending.
The department has a positive experience in the future job assignment for its students at the end of the third year of studying. During their practice at the production site students learn the requirements of the enterprise, develop their proposals as for the production process. Some graduation projects have been developed according to the order of the enterprises.
The curriculum provides training for three specializations: shipbuilding, power engineering, quality control of welded joints.
The Department’s laboratories of welding, metallurgy, technology of construction materials, spraying hot-gas coating are well-equipped with all the necessary up-to-date equipment. Now computers, multimedia and video technology are used in the teaching process.
Some students conduct research in the welding 
area and it contributes to gaining interest in their future careers. They take part in the students’ conferences in Welding and win top prizes.
The professionals who received their diplomas in Welding, are now working in the city and region at such plants as Kherson Shipyards, SE plant "Pallada", "Ukrrechflot", Shipyard im. Kominterna, con. "Electromashzavod", CE Ukrtelecom, etc.
Nowadays the Department of Welding is successfully training students for their Bachelor and Specialist Degrees, improving the educational process and preparing young generation of scientists and engineers.
